Selling Gold Jewellery

It is easy to get overwhelmed as a first time seller of gold. There are tons of buyers all competing to get you to sell to them. This can make it quite difficult to make any decision even for practised sellers. In the coming article I will explain how you can calculate how much your gold is worth and how to sell it to a established buyer.

One of the first things you should know if you want to sell gold is how to figure out how much your gold is worth. To do this you need to know how much gold is in your piece of jewelry. You can find this out generally with a stamp or impression somewhere on the item. For Instance in rings it is usually found on the interior of the band. The amount of carats can range from twenty four down to one.

The next thing you have to understand is how much your gold weighs. This is referred to as gram weight. The gram weight will help you to figure out how much your gold is worth by finding out the current price of gold (you can find this on almost every major fiscal related site), multiplying that by the gram weight and then by a chart based on what karats the gold is.

The craftmanship and design of your gold jewelry is another matter to consider when dealing with gold. It can have a big impact on the price you get if you decide to sell to a jeweler or pawnshop instead of a gold refiner. There is almost no question that old-fashioned handmade jewellery is of higher quality than machine made, so you can generally get more cash for that type.

The price of your jewellery is one of the closing factors. As mentioned above, handmade jewellery fetches a better price generally but if it is not valuable as determined by its craftsmanship than its gold content comes into play. If that is the case with your jewelry than you should sell to a gold refiner who will pay you based on how much gold is in your piece which you figured out earlier.

So if you observe all of these points, you will be able to sell gold jewellery quite easily. But of course you invariably need to do your own research into each and every jeweller and jewellery store. You might even look at pawnbroker’s shops. That is really the only way that you can buy and sell gold jewellery safely.
